30 Jestha, Surkhet.
In Surkhet, the capital of Karnali Province, the general public has been affected by irregular electricity supply and voltage problems in recent times.
Due to intermittent electricity supply and low voltage, electrical appliances used in homes have started breaking down. Local residents have complained that this has also hindered daily activities.
Small and cottage industries in Surkhet have also been badly affected due to low electricity voltage. Surkhet Garment operator Lokendra Bahadur Shahi has said that it is difficult to operate factories due to lack of sufficient voltage.
He said, ‘Work has come to a standstill due to low voltage. We took out a bank loan and started our business, but now it is difficult to pay the bank installments as the business cannot run due to electricity.’
With the intention of doing something in their own country, they started their business by taking out a loan of lakhs, but due to political reasons, many like me do not have the opportunity to work in the country of the youth. Now, Shahi said, they are even thinking of leaving this business and going abroad.
Local consumers have complained that despite repeated requests to the provincial government and the concerned bodies to solve this problem, there has been no concrete initiative. They have accused the provincial government of remaining silent on the issue.
