A small private plane crashed into a residential area in dense fog in San Diego, California, killing all six people on board, including the pilot.

According to the US National Transportation Safety Board, the Cessna 550 Citizen crashed into a residential area at 3:47 a.m. Thursday after hitting power lines. The plane caught fire and damaged several nearby homes.

The plane was owned by music mogul Dave Shapiro. He and five others were also killed in the crash.

At least 10 homes in San Diego’s Murphy Canyon area were reported to have suffered minor damage after the plane crashed. However, no serious injuries were reported to anyone on the ground.

The music organization Sound Talent Group said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of our co-founder, beloved colleague and friend.” Our deepest condolences to the bereaved family at this difficult time.

The NTSB said the cause of the accident is still unknown. Initial investigations indicate that runway lights and weather instruments were not working at the airport at the time. The pilot did not send a distress call.

The safety agency said it would take several weeks for the preliminary investigation report to be released.
